076 – Freethought Rhode Island
By pruggeri | July 28, 2010
Your hosts tonight: Dan DaRocha, Neal Fornier Chris Dwan, DJ Manuel.
Episode # 076-FTRI
Highlights from this week’s show (Wednesday, Jul 28 2010):
_____________________________________________________________________________
- Christian Science parents in Oregon lose custody of their baby over medical neglect….
- The Rhode Island Atheist Society’s 2nd Annual Scholarship Essay Contest
- Weekly Moment of Doubt:
- Why does God hate amputees? Why do you never see the supposedly miraculous re-growth of a lost limb? There are millions of testimonies that “God healed my [insert malady here],” and although none of them are ever substantiated, no one EVER makes a claim that they have regrown a limb through the grace of God’s healing power. Why is that?
- Matt 5:17-18 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
- So… why do many Christians selectively choose what to believe?
- Matt 19:24 – “I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
- So why all the exceedingly wealthy Mega-Churches (and religious leaders), that serve mainly themselves, and whose main purpose seems to be the generation of extreme wealth (and gross displays of extreme wealth) for themselves and their proprietors?

- OR: Do you believe in a literal Hell? Do you have proof that it exists? Do you think we, as atheists, are going there? If so, do you think we deserve it?

071 – Freethought Rhode Island
By pruggeri | June 23, 2010
Your hosts tonight: Tom DuValley, Neal Fornier.
Highlights from tonight’s show (June 23, 2010):
__________________________________________________________________________
- Pakistani officials call for the execution of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Face Book.
- Bus-side advertising campaign in London supporting Islam….
- Your moment of doubt: Is there any act/service that is currently done by you and/or organizations that you are a part of, that cannot be done with an exclusively secular purpose as opposed to a sectarian one? A Christian caller says yes, absolutely there are plenty of services/acts you can perform as a secular humanist where you not need to have a religious belief, any and all of them in fact.
- The nation’s Godlessness caused a 70 year old man to be mauled to death by a grizzly bear.
- Hubris in the Bayou State – Louisiana lawmakers propose prayer to stop oil disaster. Follow the logic of these links:
So, in conclusion… you piously call for prayer and bad things happen? And nobody asks, “Gee, did we PRAY wrong???” It’d be funny if it weren’t real… sigh… Oh my, what have we done, America…?

- Blasphemy Laws are discussed.
- Revisiting a call from 2 weeks ago: Is the belief in a universe filled with “psychic vibrations” as toxic a belief as, say fundamental Christianity or Islam? Is spirituality as bad as terrorism? Wow, we had a lot of discussion on this tonight, very heated and lots of fun. I hope Dan rescinds the restraining order soon.….
- The Pope begs for forgiveness for altar boy abuse: “The devil made them do it…”
- Mormons Lied about their involvement with California’s Proposition 8 to the tune of $190,000.00
- New segment, “Moment of doubt.” Tonight’s segment: Geography of belief. Religions belief is dictated by the religion you are born in. Ask Christians to call in and explain it. We hope to make this a regular segment.

- Bus-side advertisements in NYC; “Leaving Islam? Fatwa on your head? Is your family threatening you?” Ads were paid for (weirdly) by a Christian organization, Refuge From Islam.
